Final Piece: Process thinking
Project 04: Visual Authorship and Space
Final idea:
For Project 04, I first thinking to create a miniature space for the 3D models, inspired by Toys like Sylvanian Families and Barbie. I was thinking to create a mini version of districts which represent the models I designed for Project 01. Since, to create an open environment for them can let their characteristic stands out. But I think it’s a bit off the topic of portraiture, more to the other theme, National Geography. For idea development, I thought about the workshop/ souvenirs shop of the miniature exhibition, for people diy their own Pop Mart. To focus more on the portraiture part, I decided to get rid of the miniature space part and create a special vending machine idea as my final piece.
On this vending machine you can customise your own 3D model for yourselves or others. You can customise their skin tones, hairstyles, outfits, accessories, facial expressions, etc.
These lead me to think about how this generation like to create their virtual avatar on different social media platform as well. We like to decorate our avatar and replace emojis with them to show expressions to others through the internet.
For communication, I would like to create a hashtag on social media (Twitter, Instagram, etc.) for this 3D model designs. People can share their reasons why they customize the way it looks, some story sharing, their characters lore, etc. The most liked post can win a Pop Mart series that they like. I think this idea can build a strong connection within the community.
Moreover, there’s an additional option for people to add prize and make it into a lanyard, which gives functionality to your 3D model. For example, you can use them for ID card, keys, cables, etc. A better way to carry your customise 3D model around, keeps you company! I think this is a good way to express yourself and promote the product too.

I’m in my mid-30s. I had probably knockoffs as a kid. I once got a substantial Barnes & Noble gift card (I was a teacher) and I didn’t want to spend it on books, so I was looking around with my toddler and she saw some. Playing with them has helped with her language development and bonded us. My husband even loves them. They’re great! It’s fun to collect them and they have such detailed homes and towns. I get excited whenever we go to a play date and her friends have some. Even though I haven’t met any big CC fans like us yet lol I think they’re a great toy and a great hobby.

Late thirties! My mum still collects them and she’s in her 60s, I have a baby daughter and I have put mine in her room on a shelf and height her has reignited my love of them and I hope me, my mum and her can play one day.

Nearly 22 and really new in this community ! I’ve never paid much attention to Sylvanian families when I was young but now.. they are really appealing to me. Pretty sure it’s because they’re really detailed for child’s toys !

Worry Dolls
Project 04: Visual Authorship and Space
In the dolls’ original Guatemalan tradition, a local legend about the origin of the Muñeca quitapena refers to a Maya princess named Ixmucane. The princess received a special gift from the sun god which would allow her to solve any problem a human could worry about.[3]
In traditional and modern times, worry dolls are given or lent to brooding, anxious or sorrowful children. They would tell their doll about their sorrows, fears, and worries, then hide it under their pillow before going to sleep at night. It is said that the child relinquishes their worries to the dolls during the night and by the next morning, all sorrows are said to have been taken away by the worry doll and they can move forward refreshed the next day.
Worry dolls have also played a role in modern paediatrics and child psychiatry. During a psychological interview with children, some counsellors have offered a worry doll to the child as some kind of imaginary, but trustworthy “listener”, “allayer” and “contact person”. The doll, in turn, will work for psychiatrists, psychologists, educators and parents as some kind of “agent” and “troubleshooter” between child and adult.
Today, worry dolls are sold in huge quantity in Guatemala and Mexico. Nuns and poor children sell them to tourists as souvenirs. The dolls are quite popular since they are so small and thus easy to carry around.

Project 04: Visual Authorship and Space
Generation Z is a group that spends much more time on video media than millennials and Gen X. Gen Z refers to people born between 1996 and 2012. According to the McKinsey survey, Gen Z has grown in a world with the internet, and nearly a third of Gen Z in Asia relies more on social media than millennials and Gen X. Thus, considering the uniqueness and novelty of VTubers, Gen Z is the object of this study. There is a lack of research on the factors that would influence the viewers’ parasocial interactions with VTubers, and communication that occurs between VTubers and viewers. Thus, this paper would like to explore the factors that might influence Gen Z viewers’ experience of parasocial interactions with VTubers and to consider what viewers are attracted to in VTuber live streams.
Realization:
I found out influencers who uses virtual avatar can be more representing of themselves somehow. Especially, in the online world, you can be who you want to be without society’s gaze. You can design different elements on the avatar, such as different colours of hair or eyes, wings, and so on, which are really unique appearance compare to the people you’ve seen on the street in daily life. It’s a way to express yourselves. VTubers can use their avatars to attract audiences that have the same mindset as them, and create their own community. It’s a modern way to build connections with people around the world.

Exhibition: SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL: A MINIATURE ART UNIVERSE & EXHIBITION

“Small is beautiful, Miniature Art” is the most important European exhibition to compile the work of 34 local & international miniature artists and present 143 miniature artworks to the public. After the undisputed success of the #MiniatureArt phenomenon on social networks, the exhibition offers exclusive access to the magical and sometimes unusual worlds of some of the greatest artists in the movement.
“Small is beautiful, Miniature Art” is an incredible journey and a unique experience that offers behind-the-scenes access to small-scale universes full of artistry and poetry, whose only limit is the creative vision of their authors.
In recent years, many artists from all over the world have been playing with scale and introducing us to a smaller way of seeing things, and awakening our inner child. Miniature art transports us to a poetic location, from an unexpected angle, where precision is essential.
On #MiniatureArt social media, artists like Slinkachu provoke the viewer. They regularly use the element of surprise and are followed by thousands/millions of people.
Review:
A perfectly wonderful world of tiny art with a huge heart and bondless imagination. The artworks themselves were beautiful, was lovely how international it felt, and the video showing the artists creating and the video showing the artists creating each of them was thrilling. Also, excellent gifts available for sale in the shop!
